Lusaka Hosts 5th Annual eLearning Africa Conference

Zambia’s capital Lusaka has just played host to Africa’s largest annual education technology event, eLearning Africa. Designed to give education professionals from across Africa and beyond an insight into the latest technological advances, this year’s event saw representatives from 78 countries gather at the Mulungushi International Conference Centre.

Supporting the main conference was an exhibition where many of the world’s leading suppliers were on hand to showcase the latest educational resources and with ICT playing an increasing part across African schools, the event gave NetSupport and their industry partners the opportunity to demonstrate their range of complementary solutions.

In recent months NetSupport have been heavily involved in projects with two of the leading providers of shared resource and thin client computing, technology that delegates at eLearning seemed particularly keen to look at.

Wyse Technology is the global leader in thin computing and their solutions are already widely deployed in schools, colleges and universities across the world. The combination of WYSE Streaming Manager (WSM) technology and NetSupport’s market leading Classroom Management software solution, NetSupport School, delivers classroom ICT that can engage students and enable the best learning outcomes. Wyse WSM uses small, silent, energy efficient, zero client computers to provide full PC functionality - including support for the latest multimedia curriculum software and peripherals such as virtualisers and headsets. Wyse WSM and NetSupport School together create an optimised classroom-learning environment that works first time, every time, and helps keep students on-task.

NetSupport have also developed a specially optimised version of NetSupport School, NetSupport School Centralized Computing Edition, that supports Microsoft’s recently launched Windows MultiPoint Server (WMS) solution. WMS is a Windows-based solution that uses a single host computer to power multiple simultaneous and independent user stations. It has a low total cost of ownership, is easy to set up and use, and gives educators the tools and technology they need to prepare their students for success.

NetSupport’s Business Development Manager Beth Watson was delighted with the feedback received from visitors; “Visitors have been able to see at first hand how emerging platforms such as WYSE Streaming Manager and Windows MultiPoint can offer an easy to implement, robust and cost effective ICT solution. By extending the scope of NetSupport School to support these technologies we are ensuring that schools can maximise the return on their investment by providing teachers with the tools they need to instruct, monitor and interact with their Students.”
